A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL N0. 1233 RELATIVE TO MANDATORY
DISTRICT EL,F;C~PIONS FOR CITIES.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lynwood recog~:nizes
the .existing law whereby cities are authorized to provide for the
election of council members by districts or at-lar~;e; and
WHEREAS, AB 1233 authored by Assemblyman Peter Chacon, would.
require .t he election of council members by districts according to
an arbitrary ethnic mix formula; and
WHEREAS, members of the Lynwood City Council are strong
proponents of local control and home rule; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Lynwood hereby
opposes and urges defeat of Assembly Bill No. 1233 as authored..
by Assemblyman Peter .Chacon.
SECTION 2. The Mayor, or presiding officer, is hereby
authorized to execute this resolution on behalf of the City Council
of the City of Lynwood signifying its adoption, and the City Clerk.
or her duly appointed deputy, is hereby authorized to attest
thereto.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward
executed copies_of this resolution to .Senator Ralph~Dills and
Assemblyman Frank Vicencia, members of the Assembly Committee on -"
Elections and Reapportionment, and member cities of the California
Contract Cities Association.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 1st day of May, 1979.
