The City’s Storm Sewer: Protecting Our Waters
In an effort to protect our waters, the City has a federal National Pollution Dis-
charge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permit administered by the Minneso-
ta Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). This permit is currently up for reissuance and
the city is preparing for additional requirements in the upcoming months. Currently
the new permit is scheduled to be signed in 2013. Until the reissuance of the new per-
mit the City will continue to operate under the requirements of the old permit. The
permit requires that the City, as the owner of a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Sys-
tem (MS4), develop and implement a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
to reduce the discharge of pollutants from its storm sewer system to the maximum
extent possible. The City’s SWPPP is comprised of six minimum control measures, as
required under the permit.
For more detailed information about the proposed new permit, please visit the
MPCA stormwater program website: http://www.pca.state.mn.us/index.php/water/
water-types-and-programs/stormwater/index.html.
For information on the City SWPPP and MS4 program, please visit the City’s web-
site at www.ci.medina.mn.us.
The City Website Gets a Fresh New Look
The City recently had to move the website from
its outdated web design software to a new web-based
platform, which allowed us to give the website a
fresh look by revamping each page to provide more
information to our residents. The website now fea-
tures scrolling top news stories and user-friendly
drop down menus to navigate through the site.
Check out the new website at www.medinamn.us.

tions for appliances, electronics, fluorescent light bulbs, furni-

City Business Profile:
JDS Marketing & Sales, Inc.
JDS Marketing & Sales, Inc. was started in a Plym-
outh garage in October of 1992 by brothers Jeff and Steve
Deters. The original concept was to develop a line of gifts
to sell for wedding parties and market these through bridal
and men's formal wear stores. Shortly thereafter, custom-
ers started asking for engraving and personalization so
they borrowed money and purchased their first engraving
machine. Growth was slow but steady for the first 6 years
until the internet and business took off in the late
1990's.
JDS has evolved into a wholesale supplier and retail-
er of personalized gifts for special occasions and holiday
gift giving. JDS currently supplies personalized gifts
to over 2,500 domestic and international accounts. They
have been located in Medina since 1995 moving locations
5 times within the city as they've grown. JDS employs 20
full-time employees and adds many seasonal employees
for the summer wedding and holiday shopping sea-
sons. JDS is located at 730 Tower Drive, Medina, MN
55340 and on the web at www.jdsmarketing.net and
www.agiftpersonalized.com.
Traffic Laws
Traffic laws are in place to keep our
streets and neighborhoods safe. We con-
tinue to receive complaints that people
don’t follow the rules of the road.
Speeding and stop sign violations are
common throughout the City. Both are
major contributing factors in accidents.
We want everyone to be safe. Please
follow the speed limits and stop for the
stop signs. We want to eliminate the acci-
dents and keep our community safe. It is
the Police Department’s responsibility to
enforce the laws and educate the driving
public on the rules of the road. Part of
that education process is to stop and is-
sue warnings and citations to drivers who
do not follow the rules. Please help us
keep our City safe by following these
rules.
If you have traffic concerns, please
call the Medina Police Department at 763
-473-9209, and we will address them. We
want everyone to have a safe and enjoya-
ble summer.
Speed Trailer Requests
Speeding and driving complaints
continue to be a major concern for Me-
dina citizens. The Police Department
takes a proactive approach to enforce the
speed limits and to follow up on traffic
complaints. The department has been
using the Kustom Smart speed trailer to
assist in the control of speeding within
the City.
Over the last year, the trailer has
been used for traffic studies and traffic
control. It has been found to be very
effective in both areas. We have found
that the speed trailer has a calming affect
on the speed of traffic in the area that it
is used.
We have had many requests from
residents to have the trailer parked in
their neighborhoods. If you would like
to see it in your neighborhood, please
call the department at 763-473-9209, and
we will get it to you. Please buckle up
and drive safely. Help prevent traffic
accidents.
Neighborhood Crime Watch
The Medina Police Department offers the Neighborhood
Crime Watch Program for residents and businesses within the
City of Medina. If you are interested in one of these pro-
grams, please call Community Service Officer Jeff Kordiak at
763-473-9209. The Police Department needs your help; we
cannot be everywhere at once. If you see something suspi-
cious or out of the ordinary, please call 911. If we work to-
gether we will have a safer and more livable community.
Help Save Your Life or a Family Member;
Check Your House Numbers
Take a few minutes to make sure that your house num-
bers are visible from the road. In an emergency, time can
mean a matter of life or death. If your house numbers are
visible from the road, police, fire, and emergency medical
personnel can save valuable time responding to an emergen-
cy. There is nothing more frustrating for emergency re-
sponders who cannot locate the correct house due to poor
address numbers. Help us out. Check and make sure your
house numbers are displayed properly and easy to locate.
The life you save may be your own.
