City Council Adopts Stormwater Management Ordinance
In an effort to improve the quality of lakes, streams and wetlands and to meet en-
vironmental mandates, the City Council adopted regulations related to stormwater
management on November 15, 2011.
The ordinance describes when certain
stormwater improvements (such as
retention ponds, raingardens, and oth-
er similar features) will be required to
be constructed on property. This in-
cludes new development, as well as
when impervious surfaces are expand-
ed on existing property such as expan-
sions of existing buildings and parking
lots. The ordinance is accompanied by Design Guidelines which are intended to assist
property owners in designing these improvements and to provide information on in-
novative practices. For more information, please contact the Planning Department at
(763) 473-4643.
2012 Park Commission &
Planning Commission Vacancies
The City is seeking residents to serve on
the Medina Park Commission and Planning
Commission. On each commission, there are
three seats up for appointment/re-appointment
effective January 2012 for three-year terms.
The seven-member Park Commission
serves as a volunteer recommending body to
the City Council and meets the third Wednes-
day of each month at 7 p.m. in Medina City
Hall.
The seven-member Planning Commission
serves as a volunteer recommending body to
the City Council and meets the second Tuesday
of each month at 7 p.m. in Medina City Hall.
Interested applicants may pick up an appli-
cation at City Hall or via the City’s website at
www.ci.medina.mn.us. Deadline for applica-
tions is Friday, December 16th.
Deer Proofing Your Yard
The deer population continues
to grow and be very healthy in
Medina. The Police Department
often receive calls about the deer
being in people’s gardens and
yards. We have put together a list
of ideas on the city’s website at
www.ci.medina.mn.us that you can
consider using to keep the deer off
your property and out of your gar-
dens.

West Financial Credit Union
West Financial Credit Union is located at 3575 Sioux
Drive, Medina 55340, on the corner of Hwy 55 west and
101 North. After 53 years of providing banking services in
Plymouth, West Financial moved its headquarters to its
new branch in Medina. West Financial is a community
Credit Union offering full-service banking and financial
services as well as insurance planning to individuals, fami-
lies and businesses in Medina, Hamel, Plymouth, Wayzata,
Corcoran, Loretto, Greenfield and Independence.
As a Credit Union, the customers are member owners.
Credit Unions operate as a non-profit, thus all earnings less
operating expenses and reserve requirements are given back
to the members in the form of lower rates and enhanced
services. Credit Unions believe in providing the products
that fit best to each individual member, not the products
that make the most money for their shareholders.
Stop in and talk to one of the seven employees in the
Medina location or visit their website at
www.westfinancialcu.com.

horse and wagon ride
and kiddie train rides.
Santa and his helper will
also be there. Please

Bank of Loretto, will be drop off sites for the KARE 11
2011 Toys for Tots Drive.

toy to any of the above drop sites
by Friday, December 16th. Our
officers will be delivering the toys
to KARE 11 on December 19th. Refer to the KARE 11
website for further details.
Designate Your Property on the
No Hunting Map
As part of the hunting task force that was assembled in
early 2011, one of our recommendations to the City Council
was to develop a no hunting map for the City of Medina. We
are offering Medina residents in the rural residential area
where hunting is allowed the opportunity to have their prop-
erty labeled as “No Hunting”. Residents should contact the
Medina Police Department through email and request their
property be put on this map designating it as no hunting.
This map will then be distributed with hunting permits so
that the hunters know up front that your property has been
designated as no hunting.
Requests should be sent to anne@ci.medina.mn.us . If
you have any further questions, please feel free to call the
Medina Police Department at 763-473-9209.

Hamel & Loretto Fire Departments Shared
Services Feasibility Study Presentation
A feasibility study is being conducted on the possibility
of shared services between the Hamel and Loretto Fire De-
partments. Emergency Services Consulting International will
be presenting the feasibility study results to whomever is in-
terested on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00pm at St. Peter
and Paul Church Community Center in Loretto.
Recycle Your Holiday Lights
As you decorate for the holiday season, you may come
across tangled strings of holiday lights that no longer work.
Residents are reminded that they can recycle those lights
throughout the year in your current curbside recycle bin at
no additional charge through Randy’s Environmental Ser-
vices.
The strings of holiday lights are disassembled and all the
parts, including the copper wires and light bulbs, are recy-
cled.

door prize drawings, as well as a great fireworks display, sponsored
by area businesses and residents.
You won’t want to miss next years’ celebration, which will be held on Saturday, September 22nd.
