6) Staff Report
Jacob began discussion by thanking Lee and recognizing the significant contributions Lee
made over the last nine years. All commissioners concurred, and offered their gratitude as
well. Lee noted he was honored to be on the commission, his adoration for the Medina
community, and offered to help in any capacity, if needed, in the future.
Lee noted the importance to continue the maintenance of the asset inventory spreadsheet.
He offered to help at any time if there are questions as he and Gallup were the primary
caretakers of the data.
Lee also mentioned the grant process and historic goal of the park commission to regularly
seek out opportunities. He noted HAC (Hamel Athletic Club) is a good partner to work
with on finding grant opportunities. He is hopeful the commission will continue to
operate with subcommittees on this topic.
Morrison and Sharp noted they were on the subcommittee, the pandemic hampered this
activity in 2021, and they intend to move this goal into 2022.
DeMars noted the Lakeshore park survey ends on December 31, and results will be
included in the January park packet.
Morrison noted the Walnut Park signage reserved for Walnut Park will be costly, but
before the commission drops the item, the opportunity for stormwater educational
outreach should be considered. Jacob made a suggestion to combine Walnut Park
discussion with the Lakeshore Park discussion, come January.
Scherer noted City Staff is making progress with the acquisition of more park land, and
details will be shared when they become available.
DeMars reminded the commissioners that in the November 17th park commission meeting,
Norman proposed that going forward, commissioners provide updates on their park
assignments at meetings. The commission agreed, and will talk about a schedule or plan
during the goal planning meeting in January (quarterly updates, discuss a specific park
each month, etc.)
DeMars noted no applications were submitted for the vacant park commission seat as of
yet.
DeMars noted signs were ordered to post in parks due to a surge in the dumping of
garbage. Also, that Public Works removed the garbage receptacles for the winter at Hunter
Park due the heavy amount of household garbage being dumped.
Jacob, and the commissioners once again thanked Lee for the phenomenal contributions to
the park commission over the last nine years. Lee said he was humbled, and serving the
community was his genuine pleasure.
