HomeMy Public PortalAbout027-1995 Amending section 32.50 of the city codeORDINANCE NO. 27-1995 A GENERAL ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 32.50 OF THE RICHMOND CODE WHEREAS Section 32.50 of the Richmond Code created and governs the operation of the Human Rights Commission, and WHEREAS Section 32.50(b)(14) provides that "No complaint shall be valid unless tiled within ninety (90) days from the date of the occurrence of the alleged discriminatory practice", and WHEREAS the Indiana Civil Rights Statute has been amended to allow complaints to be filed within one hundred eighty (180) days, and t WHEREAS the Indiana Code incorporates Federal law in regard to employment discrimination against disabled persons (I.C. 22-9-5 et. seq.), and WHEREAS it is desirable that the Richmond Human Rights Ordinance reflect current Indiana Civil Rights law; NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that: Section I. Section 32.50(b)(14) be amended to read as follows: No complaint shall be valid unless filed within one hundred eighty (180) days from the date of the occurrence of the alleged discriminatory practice Section 11. Section 32.50(b)(15) be amended to read as follows: "Handicap or handicapped" means the physical or mental condition of a person which constitutes a substantial disability. In reference to employment, under this Ordinance, discrimination because of "handicap" shall be interpreted in accordance with I.C. 22-9-5 et. seq.
