AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, APPLYING A
NAMESAKE TO HIGHWAY 179 BETWEEN WEST EDGEWOOD DRIVE AND
MISSOURI ROUTE C AS HARTSFIELD BOULEVARD.
WHEREAS, The City Council desires to enact a namesake of Hartsfield Boulevard for
the section of Highway 179 between West Edgewood Drive and Missouri
Route C; and
WHEREAS, On October 10, 1994, the City Council adopted Resolution RS94-26
designating the extension of Highway 179 between Missouri Boulevard
and West Edgewood Drive as Hartsfield Boulevard in honor of former
Mayor George Hartsfield; and
WHEREAS, George Hartsfield served as a member of the City Council from April,
1977 until April, 1979; and
WHEREAS, George Hartsfield served as Mayor of the City of Jefferson from April,
1979 until April, 1987. During his tenure, the City's administrative
structure was revamped, several new buildings were constructed, the
City's manufacturing base was enhanced, an extensive public works
improvement program was executed, and the City adopted home rule.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A namesake is being applied to Highway 179 between West
Edgewood Drive and Missouri Route C as Hartsfield Boulevard.
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date
of its passage and approval.
