RESOLUTION OF TIlE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE
June 15, 2000
BOROUGH OF CARTERET, AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT WITH U.S.
AUDIOTEX, L.L.C. FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES RELATED TO THE
ADMINISTRATION OF CREDIT AND DEBIT CARD PAYMENTS
FOR CERTA1N MUNICIPAL TAXES AND SEWER FEES.
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A 40A:45 permits municipalities to establish a
credit card or electronic funds transfer payment system or electronic
funds transfer system upon passage of a resolution of the governing
body except that credit card payments shall not be authorized for the
payment of the redemption of local unit liens: and
WHEREAS, U.S. Audiotex L.L.C. has entered into state contract
A88512 to provide professional services to municipalites relating to the
provision of hardware and software and the administration of a credit
card and debit card payment system for certain taxes and sewer fees in
accordauce with the law: and
WHEREAS, these services are provided to the municipality at no
charge: and
WHEREAS, these services will be paid fol' via a convenience fee
assessed against those individuals who choose to pay the authorized
municipal taxes, charges, and sewer fees via a credit or debt card: and
WHEREAS, in the Opinion of the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret: the provision of such services would provide
citizens with a convenient means to pay the authorized municipal taxes,
charges and sewer fees, and may enhance the Borough's ability to
collect such revenues and is therefore in the best interests of the
Borough of Carteret:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and
Council of the Borough of Carteret that, tile Mayor is hereby
authorized to execute a contract with U.S. Audiotex L.L.C. pursuant to
state contract number A88512: and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, U.S. Audiotex L.L.C. is
authorized to accept payments for municipal taxes and sewer charges
on behalf of the Borough U.S. Audiotex L.L.C. is not authorized to
acceDt imyments for the redemption of municipal liens.
Ad'opted this 15 day of June 2000 and certified as a true copy of the
original on June 16, 2000.
