April 18, 1983
The Council of Bal Harbour Village met Monday, April 18, 1983 at
10:00 A.M. for the purpose of inducting the new members into office.
Present: Miss Gray and Messrs. Beatty, Printup, Sherman, Taplin and
members elect Mrs. Antiles and Mr. Laikin.
Also present were Mr. Fred W. Maley, Village Manager, Miss Mary T.
Wetterer, Village Clerk and Alan S. Gold, Village Attorney.
The Village Clerk reported that at the April 5, 1983 council election
396 votes were cast in person and 13 by absentee ballots, being a 22%
turnout of 1892 registered voters. The results were as follows: District
2, George J. Laikin, 263; District 3, Sol M. Taplin, 194; District 4,
Estelle M. Antiles, 232; Phyllis Anne Gray, 158. Therefore, Mr. Laikin
and Mrs. Antiles will serve for four years and Mr. Taplin for two years.
Mrs. Antiles and Messrs. Laikin and Taplin were sworn into office
by the Village Clerk.
Mayor Printup outlined some of the projects accomplished during
the past years and appointed Mr. Taplin as Temporary Chairman of the
Induction Meeting.
Mr. Taplin called for nominations for the Office of Mayor. It was
moved by Mr. Laikin, seconded by Mrs. Antiles and voted that Mr. Sherman
be appointed Mayor.
Mr. Taplin called for nominations for the office of Assistant Mayor.
It was moved by Mr. Printup, seconded by Mrs. Antiles and voted that Mr.
Taplin be appointed Assistant Mayor.
It was moved by Mrs. Antiles and seconded by Mr. Laikin and voted that
Mr. Printup be appointed Mayor Emeritus.
Mr. Sherman and Mr. Taplin were then sworn into office by Miss Wetterer
as Mayor and Assistant Mayor respectively.
It was the consensus of the council that the regular meetings of the
council would continue to be held on the last Tuesday of each month, with
an alternate meeting on the second Tuesday, if necessary, at 9:30 A.M.
The Induction Meeting was then adjourned
