Construction for stormwater BMP associated with this project was approved by MSD on August 28, 2014. The initial inspection revealed that compost had not been added to the area. According to the approved plans, 2" of compost was to be tilled into existing soil "to a depth of 6 inches for turf cover." Reconstruction was completed before the inspection on February 23, 2016. Sampling at several places in the component confirms that compost has been tilled to a depth of six inches. Turf has become established throughout the turf reinforcement mat. After carefully reviewing each component of the system and finding that no maintenance is needed (see below), I am pleased to report that: Based on what was observed, this stormwater treatment component appears to be functioning in accordance with the design intent. No standing water after recent heavy rain events. December 11, 2018 - No changes noted that would impact functionality. March 11, 2019 - No changes noted. Turf coverage estimated at about 90 -95% of turf reinforcement mat. June 13, 2019 - No changes noted. No standing water or erosion noted after heavy rain events this spring. The BMP appears to be in good condition. September 17, 2019 - No ponding water was noted. Amended soil area, as well as surrounding lawn, was aerated. This should assist in the spread of turf across the erosion control blanket as air, water and nutrients can penetrate down to the grass roots better. December 11, 2019 - No changes noted that would impact functionality. March 5, 2020 - No changes were noted. June 26, 2020 - Area is free of leaves and appears to function as designed. September 16, 2020 - No changes were noted. December 7, 2022 - No changes were noted. December 8, 2020 - Area has collected some leaves, but no changes were noted that would impact the amended soil area's functionality. March 19, 2021 - Area was fully dry within 18 hours following a 2.04" rain event. June 8, 2021 - Area is showing great coverage of turf and no ponding water. September 8, 2021 - No changes noted. December 7, 2021 - No changes noted. March 3, 2022 - No changes noted. June 22, 2022 - Slight erosion is occurring below the double layer of erosion control matting at the east edge of the curb opening that should be monitored. September 22, 2022 - No changes noted. December 7, 2022 - No changes noted. March 7, 2023 - No changes noted. June 7, 2023 - No changes noted. September 20, 2023 - Weeds are starting to grow along the north edge of the amended soil area. This edge should be trimmed out. December 6, 2023 - Weeds growing along the north edge of the amended soil area were trimmed back. Some leaves present.
