Home My Public Portal About1983-04-18 Special MeetingCOUNCIL MINUTES April 18, 1983 A Special Meeting of the Council was held Tuesday, April 18, 1983 following the Induction Meeting. Present: Mrs. Antiles and Messrs. Laikin, Printup, Sherman and Taplin Also present were Fred W. Maley, Village Manager; Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Alan S. Gold, Village Attorney. Mr. Maley introduced Mr. Henry von Oesen, President of the Engineering firm that designed our beach. Mr. von Oesen reported that the normal life of our type of beach is ten years. However, due to the quality of sand that was pumped in to create our beach, the erosion amounts to less than 10% for the eight years. He said that his inspection revealed that the groins are damaged and need repair. The council and Mr. von Oesen discussed the possi- bility of the Corps of Engineers measuring the sand in the near future and Mr. von Oesen said that if the Federal Government does not replenish the sand that the cost to the Village would not be prohibitive. Mr. Maley said that he had contacted several Landscape Architects firms woh would make a presentation of their qualifications to the council. Mr. Richard Dee appreared for the firm of Edward D. Stone, Jr. and Associates. He said that their firm had done the original plan ten years ago and this would be a ten -years -later look. The firms of Douglas Ruth and Tim O'Leary, and Werner Dietel and Taft Bradshaw did not appear as the meeting. The council decided they would listen to their presentation at the next regular council meeting. Mr. Maley requested that the plans for the new public works garage be given to a select bidder list of approximately ten firms, instead of a general advertisement for bidders. He said Mr. Gold had advised that this would be permissible. After discussion it was moved by Mr. Printup, seconded by Mrs. Antiles and voted that the plans be submitted to a select number of firms. On motion of Mr. Laikin, seconded by Mr. Printup and voted the meeting was adjourned at 11:30. A.M. Attest: Village Clerk April 18, 1983
