RESOLUTION NO. 13-8699
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA TO ADOPT PUCU
ISLAND, PARAGUAY, AS A"SISTER CITY" IN AN EFFORT
TO DEVELOP COOPERATION IN DIFFERENT SPHERES
OF MUNICIPAL AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Pucii Island is a small town and district in the Cordillera
Department of Paraguay, many of whose people are farmers; and
WHEREAS, Pucii Island, Paraguay, has basic services- running water,
electricity, Police Station, Magistrates Court, Health Center, Mail, Civil Registry and
three (3)National Schools; and
WHEREAS, technology is developing at a rapid pace and it is becoming more
sophisticated, while the young people are migrating to North America and Spain, to help
their families; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the city of Opa-locka, desires to adopt Pucii
Island, Paraguay as a "sister city", to explore implementing friendly relations in order to
develop mutually beneficial cooperation and understanding for rendering assistance to
each other; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka wishes to encourage
international good will, trade, and tourism between the City of Opa-locka and its "sister
city", Puciu Island; and
WHEREAS,the City of Opa-locka wish to encourage and develop cooperation in
different spheres of municipal and economic activities, coordinating and rendering

assistance in exchanging of representatives of administration, political institutions, local
offices, trade, business enterprises, unions, educational, cultural, technology, and
governmental exchanges to help acquaint each other with the diversity of the"sister city".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby adopts
Pucu Island, Paraguay, as its "sister city", recognizing that intergovernmental cooperation
and assistance will be a factor for the well being of the people of Pucii Island, Paraguay,
and the citizens of the City of Opa-locka, and the interchange of personnel between the
governmental agencies will be a significant factor in providing assistance and achieving
cooperation.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 23`'day of October, 2013.
