HomeMy Public PortalAbout13-8730 Provide Limited Humanitarian Assistance To Tenants who were the Victims of and Electrical Fire Sponsored by: Commissioner Johnson RESOLUTION NO. 13-8730 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA,TO PROVIDE LIMITED HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO TENANTS WHO WERE THE VICTIMS OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE, THAT OCCURRED IN AN 18 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING LOCATED AT 14350 NW 22ND AVENUE, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED A TOTAL OF $1400 PER UNIT, FOR A TOTAL SUM OF $25,200, PAYABLE FROM ACCOUNT NO. 25-525390, A NON-BUDGETED ITEM; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, an 18 unit apartment building located in the City of Opa-locka, 14350 NW 22nd Avenue, recently was the subject of an electrical fire causing significant damage; and WHEREAS,the 18-unit apartment building is uninhabitable and the residents are in need of emergency assistance to relocate; and WHEREAS,the City Commission is willing to provide limited assistance to the tenants for each unit of the apartment building for humanitarian reasons. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the City Manager to provide humanitarian assistance for the relocation of the tenants of each of the apartment's 18 units, if necessary and desirable, in an amount not to exceed $1400 per unit, for a total expenditure not to exceed$25,200,payable from Account No.25-525390,a non-budgeted item. Resolution No. 13-8730 The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute any documents necessary to implement this action and to pursue recovery of costs expended by the city from the apartment building owner. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
