A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD OPPOSING SENAT~; BILL 1918
RELATING TO PEST CONTROL
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1918 as proposed, provides authorization to
counties to provide the same services and exercise the same powers of mosquito
abatement or Vector control districts within both unincorporated and incorporatec'
territory with prior consent of the City Council in incorporated areas; and
WHEREAS, said legislation would allow possible duplication of mosquito
and Vector control services and increase in taxes up to 40~ per $100 assesaed
valuation to pay for County services which are already being provided by abate-
ment districtsa and
WHEREAS, the Southeast Mosquito Abatement District which services the
City of Lynwood and 26 other communities, currently provides efficient, effective
and economical mosquito and Vector control which could be negatively affected
by the passage of SB 191$~ and
WHEREAS, since SB 1918 provldes no safeguards to prevent duplication
of services and costs, such legislation is therefore not in the interest of good
government,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF LYNWOOD opposes SenatF: B111 1918 as unpractical and unnecevs_.ry
legislation that allows possible duplication of effort and cost to local governments
