A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
SUPPORTING THE COOPERATIVE HOLIDAY SAFETY PROGRAMS
OF OUR TR.AFFIC ENFORCEMENT Y~GENCIES, OUR TRAFFIC COURTS,
T~3E LOS ANGELES COUNTY ALCOHOL SAFETY ACTION PROJECT AND THE
GREATER LOS ANGELES CHAPTEft OF THE NATIONAL SAFETY COrJNCIL
WHEREAS, the year 1974 has iseen a greater awareness of the need to save
fuel during the energy crisis, resulting in lowered s~ieed limits, more selective
use of vehic'les,.:improved gasolineltnileage and a"sharp reduc'tion in traffic _deaths
and irfjuries, and
WHEftEAS, the month of December and especialiy the period just prior to
Christmas and continuing through New Year's Day have usually ~een an increase
in the frequency and severity of traffic deaths, and
WHEREAS, the abuse of alcohol has perennially been demonstrated to be
an overwhelming factor in this increase, and
WHEREAS, the Alcohol Safety Action Project of Los Angeles County has
initiated a vigorous public education campaign utilizing the theme, "Don't Let
Your Friends Get Smashed", and
WHEREAS, it is not only highly desirable but vital that all elements of
our community be united in an aggressive effort to reduce traffic accidents during
this hazardous period,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF LYNWOOD fully supports the cooperative holiday safety programs
of our traffic enforcement agencies, our traffic courts, the Los Angeles County
Alcohol Safety Action Project and the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National
Safety Council, by urging segments of the community and all citizens to unite in
a program of driving with extra caution and to refrain from operating their vehicles
for at least one hour after consuming each one ounce of alcoholic beverage, and
furthermore, to show brotherly love for their friends, families, neighbors and
business associates by cooperating with the current campaign, "Don't Let I'our
Friends Get Smashed".
