RESOLUTION NO. 14-8762
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO ENFORCE A POLICY TO BAN
"TEXTING" BY CITY EMPLOYEES WHILE OPERATING
CITY-OWNED VEHICLES, OR WHILE ON DUTY FOR
CITY BUSINESS; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, texting while driving has created a new and unique danger, one that did not
exist before cell phones became a regular part of life; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka("City Commission") desires
that a policy is enforced to prevent City employees from texting while operating City-owned
vehicles, in accordance with Florida law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby directs
and authorizes the City Manager to enforce a policy to ban "texting" by City employees while
operating City-owned vehicles, or while on duty for City business, in accordance with Florida
law.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
