Attest: Village Clerk August 30, 1983 BUDGET HEARING August 30, 1983 The first Public Hearing on the proposed 1983-84 Budgets was held Tuesday, August 30, 1983, at 5:05 P.M. in the village hall. Present: Mrs. Antiles and Messrs. Laikin, Printup, Sherman and Taplin Also present were Fred W. Maley, Village Manager, and Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk. The Council reviewed the proposed budgets. Mr. Maley explained that the budgets reflected an 8% salary increase for police officers and 5% for the balance of the employees. Also included was a new item for $18,000 to complete storm sewer repairs in the residential district. He said he had considered the tax levy at the same rate of 3.50 mills as last year as suggested by council. Due to the fact the village does not have any service charges and fear of depletion of General Fund reserves, he is recommending the 3.65 mills. The council and those present discussed the village's salary structure. The Mayor appointed a committee of Fred Maley, Sol Taplin, Gerry Gutenstein, and ateve Bobby to review starting August 30, 1983 August 30, 1983 salaries for new hires. Also discussed were items that constituted the Tourism Budget and the need for promotional advertising. It was suggested that after the Water Department's operation for the present fiscal year is audited, consideration could be given to lowering rates, provided the present rates from Dade County remain constant. Mr.Sherman announced that in all areas of major crime, Bal Harbour has the lowest rate per capita and we pass on this information with pride. Mr. Taplin said that we have one of the best run cities and one of the lowest tax rates in Dade County. We will conserve where we can and are not un- happy with the way things are being run. It was moved by Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. Printup and voted that the proposed budget be adopted on first reading and the tentative tax rate of 3.65 mills be levied against the 1983 tax roll.
