HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD 74/09RESOLUTION NO. 74-9 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, RELATIVE TO A PROPOSAL OF THE STATE COMMISSION TO ABOLISH POLICE FORCES OF CERTAIN MUNICIPALITIES WHEREAS, the Governor's Commission on Criminal Standards and Goals, recommended abolishment of Police Forces of less than 10 men and, WHEREAS, we recognize that the increase in crime factors within the Town would increase without the Town's Police Force, and WHEREAS, to acquire additional staffing on the Police Force, to maintain our own Police Department in the Town, the Town of Gulf Stream would be required, under the proposed recommendation, to double its staff and costs thereof, and WHEREAS, the limited Municipal Complex of the Town and its financial resources would require that the Town increase its taxes to provide for such additional staffing and/or housing of the Police Force, and WHEREAS, the proposal does not ensure that adequate Police protection would be furnished to those Municipalities who may be required to abolish Police Forces of less than 10 men. Further, there are no assurances that having larger staffs at greater costs would minimize crime factors within the Town, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Palm Beach County, Florida that: 1. We urge every elected Municipal Official, and every County Commissioner to join with us respect- fully requesting our State Legislators to defeat this proposal. 2. We direct that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Governor, the Palm Beach County Commission, the Palm Beach County Municipal League and each member of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation.
