RESOLUTION NO. 14-8796
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA,TO RECOGNIZE AND
CELEBRATE MAY AS HAITIAN HERITAGE MONTH;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, in May 2013, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson introduced a resolution
establishing May as"Haitian-American Heritage Month",in recognition of the contributions of the
Haitian people to the history and culture of the United States; and
WHEREAS,over 1,000,000 Haitian descendants occupy areas throughout the United States,
with Miami having the largest Haitian American population in the US; and
WHEREAS, Haitian Americans have contributed greatly to the arts and sciences; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to observe and celebrate
May as Haitian Heritage Month; and
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby recognizes
and celebrates May as Haitian Heritage Month.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
