ORDINANCE NO. I `A-0 7 I
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, ELECTING TO
INCLUDE ALL FUTURE FIRE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES IN THE MISSOURI
LOCAL GOVERNMENT RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, The City of Jefferson, Missouri, desires to include its eligible future
Fire Department employees in the retirement system provided by the
Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System
(LAGERS), and;
WHEREAS, It is declared to be the policy of the City of Jefferson, a political
subdivision as defined by section 70.600, RSMo., to consider as
eligible for coverage future Fire Department employees who are
eligible by state law..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. All future Fire Department employees declared to be eligible,
who have 1,500 or more hours of annual employment, shall be covered under
Benefit Program L-11 (2.50%for life). This provision shall apply only to fire service
employees who are non-social security employees, all others shall remain in the
LAGERS L-6 program.
Section 2. "Final Average Salary"for each employee shall be determined
on the basis of a thirty-six (36) consecutive month period (Section 70.656 RSMo.).
Contributions to the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System of
4% total gross wages shall not be required from eligible employees.
Section 3. All eligible employment after the effective date shall be
considered membership service, as defined in 70.600(15) RSMo.
Section 4. The city is directed to deduct from the wages and salaries of
each eligible Fire Department employee member,the contributions, if any, required
by Section 70.705 RSMo., and to remit the deductions to the Retirement System,
together with the employer contributions required by Section 70.705 and 70.750
RSMo.

Section 5. Employee retirement benefits shall be based on the 'Rule of 80'
retirement eligibility as defined in Section 70.646 RSMo.
Section 6. Remittances and other required reports and records shall be
forwarded to the Retirement System in accordance with administrative guidelines
established by officials of the Retirement System.
Section 7. Such election shall be effective on the first day of February,
2009.
Section 8. All funds generated from the Firemen's Pension Fund property
tax shall be used first to fund actuarial required contribution of the City to the
Jefferson City Fireman's Pension Fund as created in section 6.4 of the Charter with
any funds in excess of the actuarially required contribution being used to fund the
City's required contribution to LAGERS.
Section 9. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
the date of its passage and approval.
