HomeMy Public PortalAbout14-8832 Millage Rate 8.9000 for the year 2014-2015 Sponsored by: The City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 14-8832 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, SETTING THE PROPOSED MILLAGE RATE OF 8.9000 OF AD VALOREM TAXES FOR THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AS REQUIRED BY LAW, FOR THE BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2014-2015; ESTABLISHING THE DATE, TIME AND PLACE FOR THE FIRST AND FINAL PUBLIC HEARINGS TO CONSIDER THE PROPOSED MILLAGE RATE AND TENTATIVE BUDGET FOR FY 2014-2015; AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORWARD A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE MIAMI DADE COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, Section 200.065, Florida Statutes, provide that a taxing authority shall advise the Property Appraiser and Tax Collector the proposed millage rate, the current year rolled-back rate, and the date, time and place of the first and final budget hearings, at which time public hearings will be held to consider the proposed millage rate and the tentative budget for the upcoming fiscal year; and WHEREAS, the City Manager of the City of Opa-locka has recommended a proposed millage rate of 8.9000 for Fiscal Year 2014-2015,commencing October 1, 2014, and ending September 30, 2015. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1.The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference. Section 2. The proposed tax levy and millage rate for the City of Opa-locka, Florida for Fiscal Year 2014-2015, commencing October 1, 2014, through September 30, 2015, is hereby proposed to be 8.9000 mills, which is $8.9000per $1,000.00 of assessed property value within the City of Opa-locks. This represents 4.15% increase over the rolled-back rate of 8.5454 mills, which is $8.5454 per $1,000 of assessed property value within the City of Opa-locka. Section 3. The date, time and place of the public hearings to consider the above proposed millage rate and tentative budget shall be as follows: Resolution No. 14-8832 FIRST BUDGET HEARING: Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2014 Time: 5:01 pm Place: 215 Barack Obama(Perviz) Ave Opa-locka, FL 33054 SECOND BUDGET HEARING: Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2014 Time: 5:01 pm Place: 215 Barack Obama(Perviz) Ave Opa-locka, FL 33054 In the event that the Board of County Commissioners of Miami-Dade County, Florida or School Board schedule any County Budget Hearing on a date set for a City Budget Hearing, the City Manager is authorized to change the date of either or both of the Budget Hearings. Section 4. The City Manager is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser and the Tax Collector of Miami-Dade County. Section 5. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its adoption. This millage rate would be considered a 4.15%tax increase. The rolled-back rate is calculated at 8.5454. Financial Impact: The millage rate of 8.9000 is expected to generate total taxes of $5,883,483. We will budget 97% of this amount or$5,706,980. Implementation Timeline: Before August 1, 2014.
