March 1, 20182 : 15pm
The meeting began in the school library at 2 : 15pm with Patty Allen, Colleen Lawless, Liz
Carnes, Martha Dunford, Laureen Barnes and Marcia Galazzi in attendance .
Patty began the meeting talking about Security in the building . She will be sending a letter out to
parents to assure them that their children' s safety is always on our minds . Patty will be looking
into tightening up the security for AM and PM. We will need to put a hold on the Community
Walker Program until the Security piece can be looked at. David Rost, NYA Director, has
kindly offered to "buzz" in the YMCA parents after 3 : 30pm . Nighttime activities will also need
to be looked at.
Liz explained about the A. L . I . C . E . training she attended . A . L . I . C . E . is an acronym that stands
for: ALERT : Get the word out that a threat exists LOCKDOWN : Secure a place to stay as much
as possible as a starting point to buy time . INFORM : Give constant, real-time information
throughout the building using all available technology . COUNTER : This is a last resort .
Martha expressed her concern for safety while at recess . Crisis Team will review protocols .
Carey Raimo reviewed the Zones of Regulation Curriculum and the language used within the
program. She has begun to go into many classrooms to teach the language and some strategies
that can help students get to the green zone . Teachers are beginning to have students sign in in a
variety of methods that include identifying what zone level they are in. In addition, visuals have
been provided to classrooms with a variety of strategies .
As a result of the Trauma 1 class, Carey ' s group developed a family packet that describes the
Zones of Regulation, warning signs of the different zones , and some tools that may be beneficial
in the home . There are a parent letter, summary of the zones, and a visual of strategies .
A discussion began about the importance of SEL and adding meditation and calming strategies
for students . Calmer Choice will be coming to instruct self-regulation for 20 minutes x 2 week
for Preschool and Kindergarten.
