Consumer Confidence Drinking
Water Report
Medina's 2021 Consumer Confidence Drinking
Water Report is based on the many water samples
that are drawn from the water system by the
Minnesota Department of Health. The City
strives to provide good quality water, as well as
excellent service, and we rely on the residents to
notify us of any irregularities in the delivery of
that water.
The City of Medina has three separate water
systems. Medina is also supplied with water by
Orono for the Keller Estates Addition and Maple
Plain supplies water to the far southwest corner
of the City. The report can be viewed at: https://
medinamn. us /svcs /utilities -services / consumer -
confidence -drinking -water -report/. OR contact
Lisa DeMars at lisa.demars@medinamn.gov or
763-473-8852 to request a paper copy.
Bike Safety —Share the Road —Follow the Rules
Each year we receive numerous complaints of automobile drivers and
bicyclists driving poorly on the roads in Medina. The Medina Police
Department's objective is to keep our roads safe for all users. As for
automobile drivers, please give bicyclists room to ride on the roadway and
ensure that you are passing at a safe distance. The state law requires that
motor vehicles stay three feet away from bicyclists when passing a bicycle
on the roadway. As for the bicyclists, you are riding a vehicle which is
required to follow the rules of the road. You need to ride to the far -right
side of the roadway, no more than two bicyclists abreast on the roadway at
a time. You need to obey all traffic signs including stop signs. For more
information, you can check out Bicyde Alliance of Minnesota at
www.bikemn.org.
Our officers will be out looking for problems, making sure all the drivers
are following the rules. Medina is a beautiful place with great roads and
beautiful views. Please respect each other on the roads. Stay safe and enjoy
the ride. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Medina Police
Department at 763-473-9209.
Fireworks
With the 4th of July quickly approaching, the Medina Police Department
would like to put out a reminder of which fireworks are legal and illegal in
the state of Minnesota. While firework shows can be exciting to watch,
lighting off illegal fireworks by homeowners in residential neighborhoods
can be extremely dangerous.
Examples of legal fireworks
in Minnesota include:
• Sparklers
• Cones and tubes that emit
sparks
• Novelty items - snakes and
party poppers
• Noisemakers
• Fountains
Generally speaking, if the fireworks you are planning on setting off
launches off the ground and goes airborne, or if it explodes in any way,
then chances are it is illegal for private use in Minnesota. The possession
of illegal fireworks in Minnesota can range from a misdemeanor offense
(not more than 90 days in jail, fine of not more than $1000, or both), and
up to a gross misdemeanor (imprisonment for not more than one year,
payment of a fine of not more than $3,000, or both).
Night to Unite - August 2nd
Neighborhoods throughout Medina are
invited to join the Medina Police
Department, along with thousands of
communities nationwide, to participate in
the Night to Unite celebration on

officers, firefighters and City Council
members will stop by and participate in
neighborhood parties throughout the city!
These neighborhood parties provide an
opportunity to get to know our neighbors,
strengthen neighborhood spirit and police
community relations. Schedule your party

Keep Pets on Leash and Pick Up Waste
If you are outside in public walking with your pets, please ensure they are on a leash. City
Ordinance 515 requires that pets be contained or on a leash no longer than six feet in length. The
ordinance also requires that pet owners clean up pet feces and dispose of the feces in a sanitary
manner. Let's enjoy our city, parks, and trails by keeping it safe and clean.

Do the products you use in your home pose a hazard to your drinking water? Many products
may find their way into your drinking water supply. Improperly used, stored, or disposed of household
products containing hazardous chemicals have the potential to enter the area's groundwater aquifer by
infiltrating from the land surface through the soils.
The CITY is working with the County solid waste office and homeowners to implement preventive measu
to help protect the drinking water and its residents.
Simple Steps YOU can take to protect your drinking water:
*Keep track of the products used in your home and keep a minimum on hand.
*Store these products in a safe place according to manufacturers directions.
*If you have unwanted products containing hazardous chemicals:
DO NOT: throw them in the garbage or pour them down the drain!
DO NOT: pour them down the storm water drain or pour them on the ground!
*Always follow manufacturers instructions when using these products.
*Follow all Minnesota Pollution Control Agency requirements and
recommendations practices concerning the disposal of these products.

Planning
Land Use Applications Under Review
The following land projects are currently under review by the City. For more information on one of the projects, or for an
update on the review schedule, please visit: https://medinamn.us/citygov/departments/planning-zoning/ or contact the
Planning Department at: (763) 473-4643, ext. 1.
Loram/Scannell Industrial— East of Arrowhead Drive, south of Highway 55 —
Loram and Scannell Properties have requested approval of a preliminary plat and site
plan review for development of three buildings with approximately 396,000 s.f. of
warehouse/industrial uses. Preliminary review is underway and a public hearing will be
scheduled when complete, potentially at the June 14 or July 12 Planning Commission
meeting.
Blooming Meadows of Medina — East of Holy Name Drive, north of County Road 24 — Pillar Homes has requested review
of a Concept Plan for a 5 -lot rural subdivision on 72 -acres (approximately 42 -net acres). The applicant proposes a Planned
Unit Development (PUD) to create cluster lots and restore and create wetland areas within the site. The Planning Commission
is scheduled to hold a public hearing on June 14, 2022.
CommonBond Communities TIFRequest—North of Highway 12, east of Baker Park Road — CommonBond Communities
has requested that the City consider establishing a Housing Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to support development of
an approximate 50 -unit affordable apartment development. The item was discussed at the May 17 City Council work session
and will potentially be discussed at the June 7 Economic Development Authority meeting.
Buffers — Do Your Part to Protect Medina's Wetlands
When mowing or planning your landscaping
project, do your part to protect Medina's
wetlands. Wetlands are an important feature
throughout Medina and an integral part of
the natural environment.
Providing a buffer of native vegetation next
to wetlands provides filtering of stormwater
runoff to reduce pollution and provides
important habitat for wildlife. Many
properties, especially those constructed after
2005, will have protected buffer areas if adjacent to wetland areas. The
buffers may be delineated by signage.

Per City Ordmanre
NO DISTURBANCE
BEYOND THIS MARKER
Including mowing, d®ping, grading,
planting, fertilization, construction,
or removal of vegetation.
Buffer areas next to wetlands should not be mowed or landscaped but
instead should be planted with taller, native vegetation and left
undisturbed. Maintenance of weeds such at thistle within buffers is
appropriate, but it is important to note buffers will appear different from
maintained turf grass. Fertilizer, grass/leaf clippings, and other
compostable materials should also not be spread in buffers or wetland
areas. It is important to note that disturbance within wetland buffers is a
violation of City ordinance. Mowing or replacing the native vegetation
with turf grass is not permissible and may be subject to enforcement
action.
If you are curious about the appropriate location of buffers on your
property or questions about maintenance, please contact Planning Director
Dusty Finke at dusty.finke@medinamn.gov or 763-473-8846.
