Hopkinton Parks and Recreation
Meeting Minutes of 01-12-09
The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 7:00 PM.
Chairman Al Rogers, Vice Chairman Brian Eberlin, Pat Mahon, Brendan Doyle, Ken Driscoll, Mike Preite and
Joan Bannon were present.

Chairman’s Report
Sent in stimulus package for Fruit Street Fields
Conservation Committee approved widening of road
Director’s Report
o Talked about the Skateboard Meeting at the school
o HS intramural basketball will start Jan 11
o Ski Program at Hopkins, Middle School and High School underway

Fruit Street Field
Approval through Selectman for legal advice on CPC money for Fruit Street Fields
Brian O’Keefe met with legal for intent document – satisfy CPC for $1M
In order for soccer to get money they need agreement, then bank will give them the money.
Legal Counsel talked about agreement – rather than lease $ amount, equity for bank to loan
money. Ray calling bank to satisfy intent so could provide document which will allow CPC to
release money before the end of January
There is no agreement on field fees. This agreement only to get CPC to give money. Next P&R
will need to work with soccer on agreement as to days/hours

Article on Passive Recreation voted on at Town Meeting needs to go to ballot. CPC indicated
that Brendan did not get article in on time. Brendan will look into this to determine if Article can
be sponsored by P&R.
$50K for Beach not approved by Appropriations
Ken
HYSA not using fields because of conditions. Need to come up with field strategy to get the
fields in good condition. Mike indicated that they are fertilized summer and fall, still need long
term strategy
Mike will call CDM to ask if they can provide a plan to get Fruit Street All Purpose Field
revamped with a well for water, sprinklers and resurface the current field.
Need to ask Paul about the tree plan on Common, and get the order of what trees next

Anonymous donor will not commit to lights this year. This does not impact the agreement for
the lights at EMC.
