HomeMy Public PortalAbout20090713 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting Minutes Page: 1 Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of 7-13-09 The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Ken Driscoll, Bob Dobinski, Karl Morningstar, Mike Preite and Joan Bannon were present. Michelle Gates – Board of Selectman Brian Eberlin – LMPA Minutes of 06-22-09 –Approved – Need to update minutes on the website. Bills to be Paid – Approved Property Requests – Michelle Gates – Board of Selectman Concerts on the Common • Michelle Gates reported that the concert on July 12th went well with over 400 in attendance • Vendor for Concerts on Common drives trailer up onto common Budgets • Michelle indicated that the Town is looking to decrease budgets this year and wants P&R to look for ways to do that if possible. Understands that budget is already tight Brian Eberlin – LMPA • LMPA wants to hold a Swim & Paddle Race August 16th – 11AM. Joan will notify the gate guards and life guards. Brian will notify the police of this event • Brian requests Mike to look into a kiosk sign that was approved by CPA for $3500 at Sandy Beach • The light at Sandy Beach is out. Mike needs to check into this • Recommendation for Bob Dobinsky to be LMPA liaison. The Board will need to vote on this at the next meeting • Brian will forward the information from the state on watercraft near a public beach • LMPA’s family fun day was a success. Brian wants to thank board for the permitted use of Sandy Beach • The dogs on Sandy Beach after hours are a problem because the lifeguards are responsible to keep beach clean of dog droppings. Brian will bring it to the attention of the LMPA to see if neighborhood watch will work. Page: 2 Chairman’s Report • Ken wants to formalize the Department with P&L statement. This would help in planning for maintenance of common, fields, playground equipment. Need itemized plan. Key operating principle/ what does it cost to maintain all the P&R properties? What does it really cost the town and how can we improve on this. • Dave Stoldt wants to get information on town wide field availability (school and P&R), field use and how to maximize this. He is committed to getting this project underway • Discussion on the $25 field fee that HLL assesses each Little League participant. HLL maintains the fields • Update on Common o Ken met with the selectman and gave them the attached update – 19 trees are flagged for removal, 10 are currently diseased, 2 need to be removed for safety issues o The walkway plan will be presented by Ken Thursday night to thee Historic District Commission o Lights: application for historic lighting, NSTAR work order in place to take down current pole and light o The sprinkler system and Loam and seeding will probably take place after the concerts on the common • CDM Agreement – FS All Purpose Field , Reed Park o Mike is working with CDM and the Town attorney on the procurement part of it • P&R needs to schedule a separate meeting for discussion on Soccer • Request for new programs and what programs worked from last year presented to board before 2009/2010 fall/winter brochure is published. Directors Report • Mike got two quotes for the sprinkler system at the Town Common and needs to get one more Financial Update Sub Committee Report New Business Meeting adjourned 10:30 PM Next scheduled meeting 08-10-09 at 7:00 PM Prepared by Joan Bannon
