Miller)Sponsor by: Commissioner Pinder RESOLUTION NO. 15 -8907 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA, URGING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE AND THE POSTMASTER GENERAL TO ALLOW THE HELEN L. MILLER UNITED STATES POST OFFICE IN OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO REMAIN OPEN TO SERVE THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the late, Honorable Helen L. Miller is a cherished personage who is still identified with the City of Opa -locka in which she served and was elected as the first Black Female Mayor in the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Post Office in Opa -locka is named in memory of this great and respected woman; and WHEREAS, the City is concerned that the intent of the Postal Service is to close the U.S. Post Office named in her honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The Mayor and City Commission of the City of Opa- locka, Florida, urges the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Postmaster General to allow the Helen L. Miller Post Office to remain open. RESOLUTION NO. 15 -8907 Section 3. That the City Clerk is directed to send certified copies of this Resolution to the Florida Congressional Delegation, Florida U.S. Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio, and to Patrice R. Donahoe, the Postmaster General of the United States. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of January, 2015.
