3. NEW BUSINESS
The Commission conducted its annual reorganization and appointed Angie Kim
and Kathy Keelin as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, for a term ending on or
around June 31, 2015.
4. CONTINUED BUSINESS
The Commission discussed a mural design concept proposed by the previous
Public Arts Advisory Group that features an illustrated timeline of Temple City
history. The advisory body moved to further develop the concept
In the interim, the Commission will develop a list of 20 items (or events) that should
be considered for the timeline mural. That list will be presented and discussed for
subsequent editing and finalization at the Commission's regularly scheduled
October 1, 2014 meeting.
Discussion concluded by the Commission moving to recommend muralist Art
Mortimer for the mural initiative. City liaison Haworth will coordinate with Mortimer
to discuss scope and procurement, as well as a possible honorarium that allows up
to three mural design concepts before the actual commissioning of artwork.
5. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Vice-Chair Keelin reported that vandals removed shoelaces from the Mr. Temple
City sculpture. (Staff note: The FY 2014-15 City Budget does not include funding
for artwork repairs. Appropriations were to be made upon establishment of a
Percent-for-Art ordinance; or at mid-year upon receipt of the Olson Company's
$150,000 in-lieu art fee, whichever comes first).
