Purpose
To provide a framework for future decisions regarding
improvements to the road network and public facilities
in ways that promote the safe use of bikes for
recreation and as an alternative means of transport in
Brewster

* Increase bike access to key destinations in Brewster
* Establish links to regional bike routes
* Enhance bike safety
* Build public awareness of biking opportunities and
safety
Strategy Goals
Loop 1: Rt 137 – Freeman’s Way ball fields- Nickerson
SP- CCRT/Millstone Rd
Near term: Negotiations with DCR on NSP connector,
signage, bikelanes along Millstone
Long-term: Bike lanes along RT 137 and Freemans Way
Loop 2:Lower Road and Beach Landings
Near-term: signage
Goal 1:Expand recreational biking
opportunities
Loop 3: Punkhorn Parklands (primarily mountain
biking)
Near-term: Build public awareness
Establish bicycle sharing program
Long-term: work with local businesses and/or CC

Near-term: Prepare biking map, install bike racks,
improve safety marking at key intersections, increase
toilet facilities

DOT tunnel under 6A for access to bayside beaches

Regional routes: “6B” from Dennis on Satucket Rd, link
to Harwich network
Long term: improve signage indicting routes

Near term:
* Bike lanes and shared use paths with 6A repaving
* Discourage vertical curbs
* Improve safety marking at key intersections
* Incentives for helmets
* Promote safety info at Information Center, resorts, B&Bs
* Safety program with rental shops
* Safety program in schools

* Construct bike lanes and shared use paths on
secondary roads
* Improve sidewalks and dirt roads where there is bike
travel
