RESOLUTION NO. 15-8961
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA, PROHIBITING THE USAGE OF
SOCIAL MEDIA ON CITY COMPUTERS AND THE USAGE OF
ANY OTHER TECHNICAL DEVISES DURING WORK HOURS
WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE MANAGER; PROVIDING
FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Opa -locka wishes for every employee to be able to carry
out their mission without distractions; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for the City of Opa -locka to insure that
work hours are spent on the business of the people of Opa- locka; and
WHEREAS, the abused of social media on City computers and /or during work
hours can impede employee performance and distract employees from achieving the
people's business; and
WHEREAS, Social media includes, but is not limited to, personal and
professional blogs, chat rooms, social networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram
and other similar applications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission hereby directs the City Manager to develop a
policy prohibiting the usage of social media without written approval on City
owned computers and /or during work hours, absent written authorization from
the Manager and to submit this policy within 30 days.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
