Inn'" 17, No. 2010 OPPOSING SENATE BILL S-1704 WHEREAS, Senate Bill S-1704, released by the Senate Government, Wagering, Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee, permits voter registration up to 14 days before election; and WHEREAS, as such, S-1704, would place too high a burden on clerks to get voters rolls together in time; and \VHEREAS, currently, a person who is eligible to vote is required to register at least 21 days prior to an election in order to vote in that election, 8-1704, as amended, would provide that a person eligible to vote may register up to 14 days prior to an election and vote in that election; and WHEREAS, the Ne\v Jersey League of Municipalities strongly opposes S-1704 as released and has requested that all of its members to go on record similarly opposing the same. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough ofCarteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows: 1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby opposes Senate Bill S-1704 released by the Senate Govenunent, \Vagering. Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee. 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of fiifunicipalities. Adopted this 17th day ofJune, 2010 and certified as a true copy of the original on June 18,2010. KATHLEEN M.
