RESOLUTIOTd OF THE CITY COUSdCIL OF THE
CITY OF LvNF700D URGING SIIPPORT OF THE
PERIPi-�RAI, CANAL
Wf�REAS, the Peripheral Canal, wlzich will transport water
around the de�ta of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, is an
essential feature of the State Water Project, and
WHEREAS, the feasibility report on this canal, which wi11
serve not only the State Water Project but also the Federal Govertimen`�s
Central Valley Project, has been approved Uy the Secretary of Inter�or
and transmitted to the State of California for review and comment,
and
WI�RF.AS, both the Senate Committee on Water Resources and
the Assembly Corrunittee on Water have held public hearin�;s on this
'report and 'nave endorsed earLy authorization of the canal by Congress
as a joint-ase facility of ihe State Water Project and the Central
Valley Project, and
Wf�:REAS, the Peripheral Canal offers by far the best soliztion
for the problems of both water supply and water quality for the
Central Valley P and the State Water YroJect, and
WHEREAS, many years of study of unprecendented scope and
depth have determined that, by providing regulated re'_eases of
fresh�aater to delta enannels at r�ore than eight different points,
the canal will also serve to protec� and improve the en��ironment
and eco�ogy of the Sacramento-SanJoaquin Delta, and
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved '�hat the City Council
of The C_ty of Lynwood does hereby suppor� the Peripheral Canal and.
urge Governor Reagan to �;ive prompt approval to *he feasibi_lity
report sent to the S�ate of California by the Secretary of Interior,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Congress of the IInited.
States is urged to enact legislation authorizing the Peripheral
Canal as a joint-use facility of Lhe Federal Central Valley
Project and `he State Water Project, and
BE I".0 FURZ'HER RESOLVED that the Council does hereby call
upon all boards of supervisors, city councils, water ag�ncies,
ehambers of corunerce, labor unione and other civic groups tvithin
the District to adopt resolutions in support of the Peripheral
Canal and transmit copi�s of �hese resolutions to Governor Rea�an,
and.
BE IT FURTI�R RESOL�ED *hat the Council does also urge all
citizens of the District to write Governor Reagan askin�; him to
approve the report now on his desk regarding this key component
of the State Water Yroject.
