HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998-04097 Member Johnson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: CITY OF MEDINA RESOLUTION NO.98-40 RESOLUTION GRANTING PRELMIINARY APPROVAL OF COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AMENDMENT FOR POLARIS INDUSTRIES WHEREAS, Polaris Industries, Inc. (the "Applicant") has obtained an option to purchase 33± acres located in the northwest intersection of T.H. 55 and Mohawk Drive (the "Property") for the purpose of constructing its corporate headquarters; and WHEREAS, the Property is currently zoned rural -commercial, which zoning designation does not permit the extension of municipal urban services; and WHEREAS, in order to complete the Applicant's plans with regard to the Property, it will be necessary for the Applicant to obtain approval for rezoning the Property from rural -commercial to urban -commercial; and WHEREAS, in order to support the rezoning of the Property to urban -commercial, the proposed rezoning must be in compliance with the city's comprehensive plan; and WHEREAS, the city's current comprehensive plan designation of the Property does not include the extension of municipal urban services; and WHEREAS, the Applicant has proposed to amend the city's comprehensive plan to allow the extension of municipal urban services to the Property and to rezone the Property from rural - commercial to urban -commercial; and WHEREAS, the proposal to amend the city's comprehensive plan was considered by the planning commission at its meeting of July 14, 1998, at which time the planning commission recommended that the comprehensive plan amendment be approved; and WHEREAS, this matter was reviewed by the city council at its meeting on July 21, 1998 and RHB-147567 98-40 ME230-274 07-21-98 98 all persons wishing to express an opinion thereon were heard at said meeting. NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the City of Medina, Minnesota, as follows. 1. The Applicant's application for a comprehensive plan amendment for the Property to allow the extension of municipal urban services thereto is hereby approved. 2. City staff and consultants are authorized and directed to transmit this resolution along with any additional necessary information to the Metropolitan Council with a request that the Metropolitan Council approve the city's request for a comprehensive plan amendment. 3. The city staff and consultants are authorized and directed to take any and all additional actions which may be necessary or convenient in order to accomplish the purposes of this resolution.
