RESOLUTION NO. 15-9012
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO CONDUCT A STUDY OF THE REQUEST TO
EXPAND THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY'S ANNEXATION
APPLICATION; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, The City of Opa-locka has submitted application to Miami-Dade County to
annex areas so they can be included in the boundaries of the City of Opa-locka; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has received a request to expand the boundaries of the
current application consistent with the request from the Coalition of Community Organizations
Annexation Steering Committee, attached as exhibit"A"; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to give this request a complete evaluation and analyses in
an expeditious manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby directs the City
Manager to conduct a complete evaluation of the attached request for the City to annex these
areas and to report back to the Commission in an expeditious manner.

April 22, 2015 Memorandum
To: The Mayor and City Commissioners of Opa Locka, Florida
The Annexation Steering Committee respectfully requests to be on the May 27, 2015 City
Commission Agenda to publicly express the desires and interests of residents and some
businesses of the unincorporated area of North Central Dade to be annexed by the City of Opa
Locka. At such time we will ask the City Commission to amend its application presently on file
that targets only a selected portion of the area for annexation;the 'cherry picking' was an
action that has divided the community; but it can be made whole again by an amendment to
preserve the solidarity and unity in the community.
The Coalition of Community Organizations Annexation Steering Committee asks that the
amendment language be drafted to include:
'All of the unincorporated area south of the City of Opa Locka's southern boundary to
SR-112;to specifically include the Cemeteries of Brownsville and all the unincorporated area
from I-95 on the east,to CSX Rail on the West; being approximately 15-square miles(+or-).'
