HomeMy Public PortalAbout68-061 (10-15-68) RESOLUTION No. 68-61 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD OPPOSITJG PROPOSITION N0, 9 AND URGING ITS DEFEAT IN NOVEMBER The City Council of the City of Lynwood does.hereby resolve as follows: Section 1. Proposition 9, an initiative constibu- tional amendment, will be on the state-wide general election ballot in November and is alleged to provide property tax relief. Section 2, Proposition 9 will not provide tax relief of any kind, but will result in a massive tax shift harming aged persons, rentors, and single-family home owners. , Se'ction 3. Proposition 9 would seriously weaken local sel£-government by removing the ability of cities and _ schools to adequately finance needed services and facilities. Section 4 . Proposition 9 will require substantial increases in state taxes amounting to $4.5 billion by 1973-74. Section 5. Proposition 9 will produce a chaotic , situation threatening on-going city and school operations as well as preventing orderly long term development. ., Section 6. Proposition 9 is opposed tiy a responsible , cross-section,of individuals and organizations including Governor Ronald Reagan,�-tne League of Cali£ornia Cities, the California Teachers' Association, the California School Boards' Association, the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, the California County Supervisors' Association, the California Taxpayers' Association, California State.Chamber of Commerce, • and organized labor. , � NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lynwood o£ficially goes on record as opposing Proposition IVo. 9 , . . . . - . and urging its 'defeat in November and that this opposition be communicated to all groups, the press, and individuals within the community who are interested in effective local government." .
