He would like the council to authorize Mr. Maley to write the condo board advising them to cease and desist any unauthorized use. Mr. Gold advised that to operate in the building, the real estate broker could only deal with the building residents. Mr. Maley said that we have a problem with the word "exclusively" in the ordinance. He feels it should read "primarly" the term "exclusively" is over strict. Mr. McKeehan asked about other businesses in the Oceanfront District and wondered if we were going to deny only this building the privilege. Mr. Gold asked if he should bring an amendment gf the zoning code to the next meeting. Mr. Maley said we have a proposal for one. Mr. Sherman said he cannot see a real estate office in a building that has only a handful of turnovers a year. He said the council should support Alan Gold's opinion that the office is illegal. It was moved by Mrs. Antiles, seconded by Mr. Laikin and unanimously voted that Mr. Maley inform the condominium board and the tenant of the illegal use of the property. Mr. Sherman said that the Beautification Dinner is being held April 3, 1985 and he would like the council and their spouses to come. He feels that the council's support has been helpful for the beautification of the Village. On motion of Mr. Laikin, seconded by Mr. McKeehan the meeting was adjourned at 12:05 P.M. Attest: /i 21 :t Village Clerk INDUCTION MEETING April 15, 1985 March 26, 1985 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met Monday, April 15, 1985 at 10:00 A.M. in the Village Hall for the purpose of inducting the new members into office. Present: Mrs. Antiles, Mr. Laikin, and councilmen -elect Messrs, McKeehan, Sherman and Taplin. Also present were Fred W. Maley, Village Manager and Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk. The Village Clerk reported that at the Election held April 2, 1985, 412 ballots were cast. 382 in person and 30 absentee ballots, being 22.7% of the registered voters. Results were as follows: District 1, John S. Sherman, 298; District 2, Sol M. Taplin, 252; District 5, Chas. Burt McKeehan, 194 and Richard Olsen, 175. Messrs. Sherman and Taplin will serve for four years and Mr. McKeehan for two years. On motion of Mr. McKeehan, seconded by Mr. Taplin and voted the election results were certified. April 15, 1985 Messrs. McKeehan, Sherman and Taplin were sworn into office by the Village Clerk. Mr. Sherman acted as temporary chairman for the meeting. Mr. Sherman asked for nominations for the office of Mayor. It was moved by Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. Laikin and voted that John Sherman be elected Mayor. Mr. Sherman called for nominations for the office of Assistant Mayor. It was moved by Mrs. Antiles, seconded by Mr. McKeehan and voted that Sol Taplin be elected Assistant Mayor. Ms. Wetterer administered the oaths of office for the Mayor and Assistant Mayor to John Sherman and Sol Taplin. It was discussed and moved by Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mrs. Antiles and voted that regular meetings of the council would be held the last Tuesday of each month, with an alternate date of the second Tuesday of the month if needed, at 9:30 A.M. in the Village Hall. It was noted that there was no one present from the PBA, as they had requested to appear at this meeting. On motion of Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. McKeehan the meeting was adjourned at 10:10 A.M. Attest R_. village April 15, 1985 COUNCIL MINUTES April 30, 1985 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met Tuesday, April 30, 1985 at 9:30 A.M. in the Village Hall. Present: Mrs. Antiles and Messrs. Laikin, McKeehan, Sherman and Taplin. Also present were Fred Maley, Village Manager; Mary Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Alan Gold, Village Attorney. On motion of Mrs. Antiles, seconded by Mr. McKeehan and voted the minutes of March 26, 1985 and April 15, 1985 were approved as submitted. Mr. Sherman said that at the Beautification Dinner there was an over- sight and the plaque was not awarded to the Harbour House South. Mr. Cades, Chairman of the Beautification Committee, presented the Award of Merit to Mr. Linden Culiner, Manager of the Harbour House. April 30, 1985
