HomeMy Public PortalAboutHHC 10 22 1992MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING NORTH OCEAN BOULEVARD LANDSCAPING ADVISORY COMMITTEE TOWN OF GULF STREAM OCTOBER 22, 1992, 9:10 AM TOWN HALL OF GULF STREAM 100 SEA ROAD, GULF STREAM, FLORIDA ************************************************************* The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Jeanne Breazeale, at 9:10 AM. In attendance were Jeanne Breazeale, Mary Windle, Kim Tiernan, Linda Bryan, and Eleanor Woolems. II. Jeanne announced Eleanor's official appointment to the NOBLAC committee and stated that we must stick to our scheduled meeting dates and may not cancel. III. Brief discussion regarding DOT and their follow-up on intended tree work on North Ocean Boulevard. There is little that we can do until this work is completed. We imagine that they are still very busy in Miami. IV. Jeanne updated us on her most recent research: Hawaii's reaction to Hurricane Imiki -- as in the Bahamas, they did not feel that the Australian Pines sustained significantly more damage than the other vegetation -- in fact, they did better than many trees. Jeanne also advised us of her continuing research on the sterile hybrids. Seedlings are available, but difficult to acquire and even more difficult to bring into the country due to DNR's regulations. Seeds would be easier to access, but then we would have to grow our own seedlings. We determined that, should it be necessary to follow this course, the seedlings would be ready to plant as we begin to lose our old growth pines. We could then initiate a program of gradual underplanting so as not to destroy the ambiance of the Boulevard all at one time. V. Jeanne distributed packets to all present for continuing research in the areas of Urban Forestry, Grant Programs, Legislative updates, and the Historical value sideline. VI. Jeanne again stated that we cannot put together a solid program of defense, replacement, maintenance, and budget until DOT does their job. NOBLAC Meeting, October 15, 1992 Continued .... VII. We discussed plans for possible fundraising events. This included collecting old photos of A1A for possible reproduction onto note cards. Mary said that she would follow-up on this. VIII. Mayor Koch would like to plan a dedication ceremony for A1A (Historic Highway) sometime in January at the Town Hall. IX. The next meeting is scheduled for December 10, 1992, at 9:00 AM. X. Jeanne adjourned the meeting. Respectfully submitted: AAnn JJL/'GN li/ /i {iYn ONti- Kimberly A..-! Tiernan Secretary V NOBLAC KAT/n
