Policy Issues Gulfstream
AUSTRALIAN PINES Perhaps we should look at Australian Pine Restoration as a long
term effort and not a key element of this landscape project. There are many areas where
we are supplementing aging Australian Pines. These could be taken off this plan and made
part of a "long-term restoration plan" that could be implemented as the pines are available,
thus keeping new pine planting to a minimum on this plan.
We can bring a highlighted plan of where we had Australian Pines on Wednesday and
suggestions how to treat.
I=NCROACHMENTS We will have a list of residences by the end of Wednesday that we
will be encroaching into their existing landscape to plant trees. Should we send them an 8-
1/2 X11 copy of their area and ask them to sign off?
IRRIGATION This will affect many property owners. I will require that the landscaper
handwater in unirrigated areas and also where xeric shrub and ground covers just need to
get established. It would be allowed to install bubblers on trees & adjust irrigation at entry
sign plantings & focal points. Do we need to have an agreement with the individual
property owners?
WHO PAYS FOR WHAT The committee should come up with some kind of policy
regarding the Bath and Tennis Club, Jamaican Courts, the Somerset and The Golf Club.
These parts of the project have unusual circumstances and aspects that go beyond the scope
of this project. Should we review individually on Wed.?(include new construction with this
group?) Also need to discuss Westminster - doesn't want hedge maintenance and wants
fence.
UTILITIES This may be an implementation issue but everyone should be aware that even
though we are trying to proceed as carefully as possible, we will probably disturb some
utilities while planting. We will write the specifications so that the contractor is
responsible to repair.
EXISTINC„r_LANDSCAPES In several places we are working with existing landscapes &
want owners to allow Australian Pine Hedges to grow or encourage lateral growth on
smaller trees. How can we manage this - agreements? Good faith?
WIDE AUSTRALIAN PINE CANOPY AREA We still need to work out ground
cover/parking issues with club. Is this something Historic Highway will want to approve?
OVERHEAD WIRES Typically, FP&L recommends that a sabal be planted 10' away
from overhead wires. In many places, we do not have that much room. We did run the
curved Sabal idea by FP&L rep and he said fine. The 10' is a recommendation not a law
but I wanted to let you know that edge is being pushed. Town may want to encourage
residents to trim existing trees before FP&L does so they don't get butchered. - Perhaps if
we discussed maintenance procedures with FP&L maybe even brought them to
implementation meeting we could coordinate & stop hacking.
BUS STOPS Can this be part of the implementation phase or do you want to deal with this
on Wednesday?
