HomeMy Public PortalAboutHHC 03 11 1998MINUTES OF THE MEETING COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN 4:30 P.M., IN THE TOWN CHAIRMAN: VICE CHAIRMAN: COMMITTEE MEMBERS: HELD BY THE GULF STREAM HISTORIC HIGHWAY OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA ON MARCH 11, 1998 AT HALL , 100 SEA ROAD, GULF STREAM, FLORIDA. Cynthia Neeves Kimberly A.Tiernan Jeanne Breazeale H. George Kagan Charles Russell I. Call to Order. Chairman Neeves called the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M. II. Members in attendance. All members were present. Also in Attendance: Kristin K. Garrison -Town Manager Connnie Fisher-AlA Landscape Architect Eight members of the public -representing Gulf Stream Shores, Villa D'Este and Westminister Condominium 1. Historic Markers: The Committee determined that Historic Markers were not desired at this time due to concerns that efforts to read sign might distract motorists. 2. Entry Markers: The Committee agreed that one entry marker should be located at each end of Town, and be very simple in design. After a number of ideas were discussed, the consensus was a 4 ft. high, 2 ft. by 2 ft. marker with simple lettering on 2 lines: Town of Gulf Stream Est. 1925 The possibility of facing the bottom of the marker with coquina marble was also discussed. Use of coquina would depend on cost. Jeanne Breazeale will work with Kim Tiernan to get cost estimates. Regarding directional signage to Town Hall and Police Department, a simple wood berm sign was favored. Regular Meeting -March 11, 1998 Historic Highway Committee IV. Page 2 Ms. Fisher will add the cost to the budget, as it should be minimal. 1. Gulf Stream Shores Condominium: Mr. McGinty was in attendance and the committee was pleased that the Gulf Stream Shores is considering land -scaping improvements which would enhance the Landscape Project. Ms. Fisher reviewed her sketches with Mr. McGinty and the Committee expressed that they supported her ideas. 2. Villa D'Este Condominium: Ms. Fisher relayed the Villa D'Este concerns about any changes to existing landscaping in front of the Condominium. The group agreed that new pine trees should be planted only in front of properties whose owners were fully supportive of the trees, as much care and patience will be required while the trees establish themselves. Ms. Fisher suggested Ligustrum trees as an alternative canopy tree. The Committee agreed that Ms. Fisher and Town Manager Garrison should discuss this idea with the Villa D'Este Condominium. V. Future Meeting dates. There were no scheduled Meeting Dates and the Committee suggested that Town Manager Garrison set up future meetings as needed. VI. Adlournment. The Meeting adjourned the meeting at 5:45 P.M. NOTE: Ms. Fisher met separately with representatives of the Condominiums. stin K.
