RESOLUTION NO. 15-9040
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OPA-LOCKA; REQUESTING THE PRESIDENT AND
THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
TO ADOPT A "WET FOOT, DRY FOOT" IMMIGRATION
POLICY FOR HAITIAN MIGRANTS THAT REACH THE
SHORES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA;
PROVIDING FOR RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Haitians nationals are suffering from political and economic
conditions similar to those of Cuban nationals; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress passed in to legislation the Cuban
Adjustment Act of 1966, and amended it in 1995 to create the "Wet Foot Dry Foot";
and
WHEREAS, "Wet Foot Dry Foot" policy allows any Cuban migrant who reach
the United State shores to acquire permanent residency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE CITY
COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City of Opa-locka request that the President and United States
Congress adopt a "Wet Foot , Dry Foot" immigration policy for Haitian
migrants that reach the shores of the United States of America.
Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
Resolution to the President and Congress of the United States of America and
any sub-committee of Congress thereof.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
