A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUPICIL OF 1HE CITY OF
LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, URGiNG THAT THE IIECESSARY
STEPS BE TAKEN TO EFFECT D°FERMENT OF LOCAL
POLICE OFFICERS FROM MILITARY DUTY DURING PERIODS
OF INTERNATIONAL POLICING ACTIODIS INVOLVING THE
USE OF UNITED STATES MILITARY FORCES.
WHEREAS, this Council believes 'that elevating the general I
level of law enforcement by recruitment of highly qualified young
men is one of the most important functions of local goo�ernment,
and
WHEREAS, recruitment of such men has been and is very i
difficult, and �

6JHEREAS, further depletir,n of tr�e personnel strength �
of the Police Department by inducti.on of police officers irito the �
armed forces will seriously interfere with the City's efforts to I
at*ract and maintain highly qualified police officers, and may '
seriously damage the general level of public safety in this com- I
munity, �

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWO011, I
CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: �
Section 1. That appropriate steps be taken to effect the �
I
granting of military deferments to officers of all local law eriforce- i
ment agencies during such times other than a national emergency �
involving the declaration o£ war,
i

Section 2. That copies of this resolution be sent to the �
President of the United States, the Director of the Federal Selective �
Service System, the United States Secretary of Defense,members of the I
California delegation in the United States Congress,.the Governor of
the State of California, the Senator and Assemblymen representing �
Lynwood in the California State Legislature, and to any other appro- I
i
priate official or agency as determined by the Lynwood City Council. �
Section 3• The City Clerk shall ce:tify to the adoption of ?
