Section 4730 of the Cali£ornia Health gc Safety Code stipulates that the presiding officer of a city is a member of the Board of Directors of the sanitation district in which LTinwood is located. However, the law requires that the City Council appoint one of its members, other than the presiding officer, to act as alternate director. Therefore, with the reoga•:lization of the City Council, Mayor Sm3th is now Director, and it will be necessary <td�adopt a resolution naming a member of the City Council as alterna+e director. Tltis letter is iaritten to clarify the qualifications and for your xeference and Ruid- ance. � Section 4730 of the California f{ealth �, Safety Gode stipulates that the presiding o,ff.icer of a city, all or.part .._ of which is in a Sanitation District, IS a member of the Board of Directors of the Sanitation District. Therefore, as soon , as a member of your council is elected I�tayor, he is airtomati- cally a Director. No appointing action is necessary. All tiae require is a certification of t3ie 1layor's election.
