Mayo r Chavez called the City Council Regular Meeting to order at 7 :3 1 p.m . in the Coun ci l Chambers located at 5938 Kauffman Avenue , Temp le City . 2. ROLL CALL PRESENT: ABSENT : ALSO PRESENT: 3. INVOCATION Councilmember-Fish , Man , Sternquist, Yu, Chavez Councilmember -None City Manager Cook , City Attorney Vai l , City Clerk Kuo , and Publ ic Safety Supervisor Ariizumi Pastor Kevin Camato from Seventh-day Adventist Church provided the Invocation. 4. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Boy Scout Troop #17 4 provided a flag ceremony and led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance . 5. CEREMONIAL/PRESENTATIONS A. PET MONTH Diane Rios , San Gabriel Humane Society volunteers , introduced the featu re d pet for the month "Oso ". Those interested in adopting him can c all the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society at (626) 286-1159. B . ARBOR DAY PROCLAMATION Rob Cruse , City's Lead Tree Trimmer/Arborist , announced upcoming Arbor Day Celebration at Live Oak Park and accepted the proclamation from Mayor Chavez and City Council. C. ARBOR DAY POSTERNIDEO CONTEST WINNER Parks and Recreation Director Burroughs gave a brief history of Arbor Day ,--------~--- City Council Minutes March 1, 20 16 Page 2 of 7 and introduced the Arbor Day Poster Winners . Mayor Chavez and City Council presented the winners with a certificate of recognition . D. READ ACROSS AMERICA PROCLAMATION Youth Committee Increase Literacy Work ing Group accepted the proclamation from Mayor Chavez and City Counci l. Youth Comm ittee Members Dodge , Mok , and Wong also gave a brief overv ie w of their objective and announced that City Hall/City Clerk's Office w ill now accept donations of boo ks for the two libraries that will be installed in City parks. Oak Avenue Middle School Principal , Lawton Grey and Science Teacher, Loyal Perry , spoke regarding the Litt le Free Library on their campus and gave the ir support for mo re Little Free Lib rari es in the City. 6. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA Jing Li , Temple City Library Manager, shared upcoming library events . 7. CONSENT CALENDAR Mayor Pro Tem Yu made a motion to approve the Consent Calendar. APPROVAL OF TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURE OF TEMPLE CITY BOULEVARD FOR THE "EVERY 15 MINUTES" PROGRAM AT TEMPLE CITY HIGH SCHOOL The "Every 15 Minutes" program is a program focused on high school juniors and seniors, which challenges them to think about drinking , driving , personal safety , the responsibility of mak i ng mature decisions and the impact thei r decisions have on family , friends , their community , and many others . Act ion : Approved the temporary street closure of Temple City Boulevard between Cam i no Real and Lemon Avenue on April 7 , 2016 , from 9:00 a .m . to 2 :00 p .m . for the "Every 15 Minutes" program at Temple City H igh Schoo l.
