HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-29-2004THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JANUARY 29, 2004 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004 in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. John Kenny, Mary Jo Flood, Dian Lawson and Assistant City Attorney Joel Harvey were in attendance. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Kenny made a request to approve the minutes for January 22, 2004. Flood made a motion to approve, with a second by Lawson. The motion was carried on a voice vote CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Kenny presented claims from the Finance Department for $226,959.91. Lawson made a motion to approve, with a second by Flood. The motion was carried on a voice vote. ELECTION OF OFFICERS A. Lawson made a motion to elect John Kenny for President, with a second by Flood. The motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Flood made a motion to elect Dian Lawson for Vice President, with a second by Kenny. The motion was carried on a voice vote. REQUEST A. Fire Chief Crawley received a letter from Michael J Allen asking for a voluntary reduction in rank from Battalion Chief to Firefighter. Lawson made a motion to approve, with a second by Flood. The motion was carried on a voice vote. B. Captain Ponder received a request from Stuart Sector of the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center, requesting permission to have special parking on the interior lane of Hub Etchison Parkway on Wednesday, February 4, 2004. Flood made a motion to approve, with a second by Lawson. The motion was carried on a voice vote. SPECIAL THANKS John Kenny, on behalf of The Board, thanked Bob Goodwin for his many years of service on the Board of Works. NEW BUSINESS Board member Lawson asked about the firefighter's disciplinary action being televised. She felt that they shouldn't be televised because of the nature of the information that can come out in the proceedings. City Attorney Harvey said that they were required to be at public hearing but he didn't believe that they needed to be televised. Flood made a motion that they not be televised, with a second by Lawson. The motion was carried on a voice vote. Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. January 29, 2004 Page 2 Board member Lawson also asked about who was responsible for the removal of snow and ice on the Richmond Ave Bridge sidewalks. She also inquired about businesses and their responsibility on snow and ice removal and who was suppose to enforce the ordinance that states that it is their responsibility. Engineer Chuck Greene said that he would check into it. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
