RESOLUTION NO. 15-9089
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA; RECOGNIZING THE
MONTH OF MAY AS "LUPUS AWARENESS MONTH";
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, 1.5 Million Americans and 5 Million people worldwide struggle
with the debilitation consequences of lupus, a potentially fatal autoimmune disease;
and
WHEREAS, In people suffering from Lupus, the immune system fails to
ward off viruses and bacteria and attacks healthy cells causing inflammation and
pain and leading to permanent damage to the body; and
WHEREAS, Lupus has no cure and nine out ten people with Lupus are
women between the ages of 15 and 44.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE CITY
COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF OPA LOCAK, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby recognizes the Month of
May as "Lupus Awareness Month."
Section 3. That copy of this resolution be transmitted to The Lupus
Foundation of America.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
