SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS -MEETING OF MAY 18,2016 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Recreation Commission actions from thei r meeting of May 18, 201 6. BACKGROUND: On May 18, 2016, the Parks and Recreation Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting. ANALYSIS: Following is a summary of actions taken at the May 18, 2016 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioner-Baroldi, Vice-Chairman Georgi no, Chairman Rosso Absent: Comm issioner - None Excused: Commissioner -Haddad 2. CONSENT CALENDAR The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the minutes of the April 20, 2016 meeting and received and filed the monthly report for April 2016. 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None City Council June 7, 2016 Page 2 of 3 4. NEW BUSINESS A. REQUEST FROM TEMPLE CITY AMERICAN LITTLE LEAGUE (TCALL) FOR RESERVED USE OF THE ATHLETIC FIELDS AND CONCESSION STAND AT LIVE OAK PARK FOR ALL STAR GAMES AND PRACTICES FROM JUNE 13 -JULY 12, 2016 Pursuant to the Agreement for Use of the Athletic Fields at Live Oak Park, the Parks and Recreation Commission is required to review and approve applications for post-season use. The Commission approved the request from TCALL and also approved a request to extend park hours to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday, during this time for completion of games. TCALL is required to pay for all staff costs after 10 p.m. B. REQUEST FROM TEMPLE CITY AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION (TCASA) FOR RESERVED USE OF THE ATHLETIC FIELDS AT LIVE OAK PARK FOR POST SEASON PRACTICES MAY 19 -JULY 2 , 2016. The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the request. C. APPEAL OF STAFF'S DECISION TO REMOVE TWO SIBERIAN ELM TREES LOCATED AT 6034 MUSCATEL AVENUE Staff had determined two Siberian Elm trees, located in the public right-of- way at 6034 Muscatel Avenue, needed to be removed to accommodate a sidewalk required by the City in conjunction with a new home being built at that location. Staff recommended one new tree be planted in the public right- of-way following installation of the sidewalk. The Parks and Recreation Commission denied the appeal, upholding staff's decision to remove the trees. 5. MA TIERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS A. The Commission rece ived the Parks and Recreation Director's Report for May 2016. CITY STRATEGIC GOALS: Approval of the Commission actions of April 20, 2016 furthers the City's Strategic Goal of Citizen Education and Communication. City Council June 7, 2016 Page 3 of 3 FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2015-16 City Budget.
