SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Every winter a number of McCall residents inquire about the possibility of purchasing snow gates for our
plows. In the right snow conditions, it would keep snow berms left in driveways to 6".
Due to the increase in inquiries already this winter, as well as from the City Manager and Mayor, Rick
Scherette, Street Superintendent, located Tim Martin, Street Superintendent from Coeur d'Alene on the
subject. Coeur d'Alene began researching snow gates in 1989 with their first purchase. They continued to
research and fine tune what works best for their area, and while doing so, put together a presentation that
Mr. Martin is willing to share with any city that has a need and interest.
Staff is of the opinion that the presentation will give the street department and Council significant
information that will be a time saver in our research. Staff would like to be in a position by the end of
winter to determine if the snow gates are feasible for McCall.
