tly set at 5 feet. I would urge the council to consider reducing that
distance to 3 feet if it is possible during this meeting. The reason I ask for this
consideration is to reduce wasted space. If we use a 10'x10' (100 sq ft) accessory
building as an example, and put it as close to the property lines as possible in a corner,
that building essentially has to take up 225 sq ft of space making it 21/4 times larger,
essentially, than it actually is. By simply reducing that 5ft requirement to 3, we drop the
overall square footage down to 169, making the building essentially 1% larger than it
actually is thereby eliminating 56 sq ft of wasted space. This also would mean that
even if two neighbors put accessory buildings as close as they could there would still be
6 feet of separation between the two buildings.
