shifts. Al1 employees during the period
they are scheduled for such duty sha.11

The City does not pay for overrime work except, 1� off-duty
court time by police o£ficers below the rank of lieutenant, and 2j
emergency overtime pay on a shift-pa.y ba,sis in the Fire DGpartment
lnrhen the line operating force is reduced by layof£, resigna.tion, or
retirement to twenty-two (22� or less personnel, said ouertime pa;�

Off-duty court time shall be compensated for a.t 'the .rate of

Section 5� Premium Pay io encourage employees in under-
talcing outside study to the end tha.t they may perf"orm t;rEZr dutie;
in a. more efficient ma.nner, a system of premium pay, over a.nd abcl�e

Maximum premium pay is f'ixed at $%'Oo00 per monthe
A�eme�ter hour is defined a.s one hour oS" c�a,ssroocn work
per week for one semester or 18 weeks, plus necessa,ry outside study.
A11 courses o£ study must ha.ve prior approva,l by the department head
and City Manager in order to receive premium credite
Accredited schools are herein defined as college:, junior
colleges or universities or sLich other institutions a.s may be a,pproved
by the Cifv Ma.nager.
Suitable written certificat�on from the �chool showi.ng
satisfa,ctory completion of each course sha.11 be submitted to the
Personnel Officer for personnel records. Premium pay wili commence

the £irst pay period a.fter the first of the month fo].lowing the
�submission of the written certifica.tion.
The Ci�y will contribute 50� of the cost of tuition where
the cost of such tuition exceeds the sum of $10.00 per semester
course while the employee is accruing the $20.00 per mon�h maximum
premium pa,y, _. .
The provisions of this section do not apply to hourly
employees or employees undertaking an approved cours� b°tween the
hours of 8:00 a.,m, and 5�00 p.m „ Monda.ys thrcugh Fridayeo
