SUBJECT: APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS FROM THIRD QUARTER BUDGET
ADJUSTMENT FOR FY 2015-16
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council is requested to authorize staff to appropriate $50,000 from Unappropriated
Fund Balance related to the third quarter budget adjustment
BACKGROUND:
1. On May 17, 2016, as part of the third quarter budget amendments, the City Council
authorized $50,000 for workstation remodel in the Community Development
Department. Because of salary savings due to a vacant position, additional resources
were available for this workstation remodel.
2. On June 21, 2016, the City Council adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2016-17 City Budget.
ANALYSIS:
Staff has ordered all materials and equipment for the workstation remodel in the Community
Development Department. However, not all the items will be delivered by June 30, 2016,
which is an accounting requirement if payment is to be made from the FY 2015-16 budgeted
allocation. As a result, funds to complete this project must be appropriated in the new budget
year, FY 2016-17. Unspent funds at June 30 will revert back to Unappropriated Fund
Balance so there is no additional funds being requested, only moving budget authority from
one fiscal year to the next. There were also some technological upgrades made as part of
this remodel, however there are sufficient funds in the Technology Upgrade account.
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS:
By appropriating additional funds for necessary expenditures, the City Council will
promote or further the City's Strategic Goal of Good Governance.

FISCAL IMPACT:
This action will increase appropriations in the General Fund by $50,000 in the FY 2016-17
City Budget.
