HomeMy Public PortalAbout2001-062 Resolution Denying Setback Variance at 565 Hackamore RoadMember Jim Lane introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: CITY OF MEDINA RESOLUTION NO.01-62 RESOLUTION DENYING SETBACK VARIANCE AT 565 HACKAMORE ROAD WHEREAS, Dale Gronberg and Jodi Gronberg (the "Applicants") are the fee owners of property located at 565 Hackamore Road (the "Property"); and WHEREAS, the Property is zoned rural residential (RR) and contains a single family dwelling with an attached two -car garage; and WHEREAS, the minimum side yard setback within the RR zoning district is 20 feet; and WHEREAS, the Applicants have proposed to construct an addition to their existing garage which would extend to within 6.1 feet of the side lot line; and WHEREAS, this matter was reviewed by the planning commission at a public hearing on November 13, 2001, after which hearing the planning commission recommended against granting the setback variance; and WHEREAS, the city council considered the matter at its meeting of November 20, 2001. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the city of Medina, Minnesota, that the variance requested by the Applicants be denied because the Applicants have failed to demonstrate a hardship for the following specific reasons: 1. The requested variance is too large because it reduces the required setback from 20 feet to 6.1 feet; 2. Other options exist on the Property for additional garage space; 3. The Applicants are able to make reasonable use of the Property without the variance; and RHB-206571 v I ME230-8 1 01-62 December 4, 2001 4. Granting a variance for additional garage space is a luxury because the house on the Property already has a two -car garage. Dated: December 4, 2001.
