CITY OF MEDINA
RESOLUTION NO.02-04
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING RESIGNATION OF MAYOR;
DECLARING VACANCY; APPOINTING SUCCESSOR AND
CALLING FOR SPECIAL ELECTION
WHEREAS, the Medina city council has received a letter dated February 4, 2002, from
John B. Ferris resigning from the office of mayor, effective immediately; and
WHEREAS, the city council desires to act upon the resignation and to take all other
appropriate actions regarding the resulting vacancy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the city of Medina as
follows:
1. The city council hereby accepts the resignation of John B. Ferris as mayor, effective
immediately.
2. The city council hereby declares there to be a vacancy in the office of mayor as a result
of said resignation.
3. The city council hereby appoints Philip K. Zietlow as mayor to serve until a special
election is held.
4. A special election shall be held on November 5, 2002, to fill the remaining two years of
the term of mayor.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Carolyn
Smith and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:
Lane, Smith, Workman, and Zietlow
and the following voted against same: None
Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
